Rooting our Sony Ericsson W8.





Definition from Wikipedia:
            "Rooting is a process that allows users of cellphones and other devices running the Android operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's Linux subsystem, overcoming limitations that the carriers and manufacturers put on such phones."

Warning:
First off, let me start by saying that if you don't think you need rooting, don't root.
It can be dangerous if done wrong, so be sure you know what you're doing.
With that out of the way, let's get going then.
Rooting voids Warranty!
[ but we can unroot our device before submitting to service center... ;-) ] 

Actual Process:
We can use SuperOneClick or any of the following softwares for rooting our W8
  • Flash tool,Universal Androot ,Recovery Flasher,Easy Root,Unrevoked...use google to find them.
  1. Download SuperOneClick.
  2. On your phone, go to Settings -> Applications and enable Unknown Sources.
  3. Next, go to Settings -> Applications -> Development and enable USB debugging.
  4. You also need the proper USB drivers.(Install PC Companion to get the drivers.) To check if you have them, start SuperOneClick.exe and click Driver Check. If the driver check fails, update your phone with PC Companion.
  5. Now, connect your USB cable from your W8 to your computer. When connected it is VERY IMPORTANT to select CHARGE PHONE.
  6. Start SuperOneClick.exe and just click ROOT. Everything should go normally. You might get a message asking you if your OS is 2.0 or higher, just go ahead and click Yes.
  7. You should now be rooted! :)

Note: After rooting you will have application named SuperUser in you phone which is used to allow/deny root access to other applications.
Disclaimer: I wont be responsible if u damage your phone!
[dont worry....i have tried it myself......and you can restore your phone most of the times in case of software problems! :) ]

    need ur help, i wanna install all my apps to sd, my current android ver is 2.1.1 after updating.

    you need 2.2 to use app2sd....install the floyo ROM....its quite stable...:)

    Bro as per instructions given on this blog i've rooted my phone and updated its baseband using Baseband 015 - X8i_2.1.1.A.0.6_Baseband_015.7z wid.

    my first prob is that i am not able to boot into xrecovery. i've tried pressing back button several times when restarting my w8 but it boots normally & no xrecovery screen is showed up.

    2nd is that I m not able to figure out which step to folow to install new roms from the following;

    Installing zip packages or installing .img files or installing .FTFfiles.

    Would u please tell me exact steps to install rom, i've only done rooting of my phone till now

    Guys iv downloaded nfs shift its 39mb file. Wen I try to install it says out of spaceNfs shift could not b viewed free up some space on ur phone n try again.     @john - ur ram might be low....try 2 free it using sum utilities from the market....
    also make sure u have enough phone memory...

    @john - u can upgrade using custom roms....no official update ll b provided.

    @jack - use superoneclick...is has d unroot option. :)

    @sushisue - for app2sd better use 2.2...derz a method using which u can use app2sd in 2.1...ll post it soon...nw kinda busy wid colg work...

    n u can install cwm using a simple custom zip patch...

    @swapnil...u must have a rooted phoone with xrecovery installed...den continuously tap the back button while the phone is starting...

    Hi! I just bought my w8 and i was wondering if after making a backup of my phone, rooting comes next and other upgrades follow? Also, if upgrade my phone, will i be able to set the memory card as the default memory? Or even at least an option where you can select the sd card as the default memory so that from there, I can just download and install all the apps i need? Hope you can help me. This will be my 1st time to tweak a phone, especially this one. :-)

    yes backup ur stufs lyk sms, phonebook useng superbackup. an remember wen upgradeng to coustom rom always backup ur stock rom useng xrecovery so u cn restore bak if ur havng problem an donot rename da backup file u created. jst copy it da backup in ur HD for safety. il recomend u froyopro v1.1, floyo v 15, gingerxperia v13

    After i click "yes" and it show error "Device properties could not be read".. -.-"

    hi! guys i have SE w8 (e16i)i rooted my phone also. but the problem is that the flashtool is not installed on my pc. when i going to install flashtool it says each and every time that "The JVM could not be started.The maximum heap size (-Xmx)might be too large or an anti virus or firewall tool could block the execution." i also blocked my anti virus or firewall but error is same. i have to update my baseband plz tell me what will i have to do plz...
